The City of Westland's Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration will take place on Monday, January 21 at Westland City Hall. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. and a shuttle bus will be provided from City Hall to the Westland Public Library where we will begin our Freedom Walk to signify unity at 9:00 a.m. The walk will take place down Central City Parkway and end back at Westland City Hall. Our MLK Ceremony begins at 10:00 a.m. which will include presentations from dignitaries and Andrew Humphrey, Meteorologist and reporter at WDIV, will deliver the Keynote Address. Andrew Humphrey is an Emmy award winning meteorologist and reporter at WDIV-TV Local 4. In addition, he is proud to have earned the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) distinction and delivers science and technology reports for "Tech Time With Andrew Humphrey." These honors are indicative of Andrew's passion for weathercasting and storytelling that help people stay informed and safe.
Participants are asked to gather at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd. beginning at 8:30 a.m. From there, weather permitting, participants will be shuttled to the Westland Public Library for the Annual Freedom Walk, which will begin at 9 a.m. The Freedom Walk will honor all of those who marched with Dr. King over 50 years ago. The short walk will end at Westland City Hall.
City Hall doors will open beginning at 8:30 am. The ceremony, which begins at 10:00 a.m. Light refreshments will be provided by the Westland Police Community Partnership Committee.
