Due to the Extreme Heat over the upcoming week, the City of Westland has opened an emergency cooling center for residents. Cooling Center hours and location.

Westland City Hall, City Parks and the Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center are open for our residents. Online services and the City drop boxes are still available for residents to use.  The two drop boxes located at City Hall for bill payments (no cash please) and document drop offs that will be checked daily.  The Senior Friendship Center will continue to be closed until further notice.  Thank you for your patience in this unprecedented challenging time and please stay healthy.

The Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT)  works tirelessly to deploy solutions that are both nimble and provide uniform access outside of the traditional confines of the municipal offices.  This methodology has allowed the City’s employees to work aggressively in the field with a full complement of technology to provide immediate service, educate the public, document work, and remediate matters to ensure the highest level of safety and quality of life are maintained in the City. 

The Department of Innovation and Technology is charged with the operational care and support of all technology assets for every department within the City.  The staff of the DoIT support over 300 computers and mobile devices, 250 employees, 200 phones, 52 miles of fiber optic network, and dozens of mission critical applications. and other event specific sites and domains are maintained also by the DoIT to ensure the highest usability and reliability for the residents of Westland.  As the name suggests, the Department of Innovation and Technology does not stop at maintaining existing solutions. 

Technology never stands still and neither does the DoIT.  With a very serious commitment in a “wecan DoIT” attitude the department has successfully replaced legacy and segregated business systems into a fully integrated and mobile ERP solution to better serve the residents at the counter, on the phone and online.  The DoIT team is working tirelessly to transform segregated, manual, paper driven processes into automated, integrated, and mobile accessible solutions for both its internal and external customers.
