TIFA 2019 Progress/Accomplishments

The City of Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA) continued making progress on the goals and objectives laid out in the currently adopted development plan throughout 2019.  The City Centre Redevelopment project continues to be a top priority of the authority, located in the heart of Westland’s “Shop and Dine” District and providing the opportunity for the City to create a “downtown mainstreet” along Central City Parkway, expanding past significant investment to the thoroughfare.  The board entered into a contract with Gibbs Planning Group and McKenna Associates for strategic planning consulting services related to the development of this area, anchored by the Westland Shopping Center.  Significant efforts were also made to market this location as representatives from the City, along with McKenna traveled to the ICSC RECon event in Las Vegas to meet with developers from across the nation and to generate a buzz around the development site.  The board approved purchase of holiday décor for the newly installed streetlights along Warren Rd. – allowing for the festive decoration of Warren, Central City Parkway, Nankin and Hunter, located within the district.
