We are pleased to provide you with a best in class city-wide single-stream curbside recycling program that rewards you for recycling through an innovative program called RecyleBank, which allows you to save hundreds of dollars a year on groceries, pharmacy needs, clothes and restaurants through your recycling efforts.

Where should I place my recycling cart to ensure it's picked up?

On your recycling pick-up day, please place your cart 4ft away from the curb, cars and other items, with the handle facing your house.

When do I put my recycling cart out to be picked up?

Your recycling cart will be picked up on your regularly scheduled trash day.

How do I know which week I should put my recycling cart out to be picked up?

You will be notified shortly of your designated recycling week.

Will my trash pickup day change with the recycling program?

Your trash and compost pick-up date will remain unchanged and the City of Westland Recycling Center at the DPS yard will remain available for use.

What can I put in my recycling cart?

Please see the top of your new recycling cart for a list of accepted recyclables. Please do not place unaccepted items inside your cart.

Do I need a different recycling cart for each type of recyclable material?

No. This unique program means no more sorting is needed!

What is RecycleBank?

Through a partnership with RecycleBank, households like yours will earn RecycleBank Points based on the weight of your community’s recyclables. You can redeem your RecycleBank Points for rewards from hundreds of national and local businesses like, Kraft, Bed Bath and Beyond, Dick’s Sporting Goods, the Westland Shopping Center, Marvaso’s, Heartland Marketplace and Nankin Hardware to name a few. Our local schools and charities can even benefit when you choose to donate your RecycleBank Points.

How do I track and redeem my RecycleBank points?

You must Activate your RecycleBank account to start redeeming your RecycleBank Points.

How do I activate my RecycleBank account?

Your personal Activation Mailer, complete with your Activation Code, will arrive in the mail shortly. You must activate your account at www.RecycleBank.com to start redeeming your Rewards. You can also call toll free at 1.888.727.2978. Your new Recycling Rewards program will begin after your first pick-up.
