The Fire Service is built on two key principles: Life Safety and Property Preservation. Our 76 uniformed personnel and 2 civilian personnel are trained and prepared for any situation that would compromise either one of those areas. There are 5 fire stations throughout the City of Westland that support 5 engines, 4 advanced life support rescues and a command vehicle. The City of Westland has been providing advanced life support to our citizens since 1997.  In 2008, the fire department responded to over 9000 calls. Approximately 85% of them were medical based. We transport to three major hospitals in the area: St Mary’s (Livonia), Annapolis (Wayne), and Garden City Osteopathic (Garden City). The University of Michigan and St Joseph's Mercy Hospital also provide medivac transport if a trauma or burn center is required.

The Fire Department is divided into 4 divisions: Fire Suppression, Fire Prevention, Training/Education, and EMS. We also play an integral role along with the mayor, police and city directors in Emergency Management. The Emergency Operations Center is located at the Melvin G Bailey Center. We also have three specialized teams that train on a regional level. The MUSAR team is designed to provide rescue to trench collapse, building collapse, confined space rescue, urban search and rescue, and high angle rope rescue. The Tactical EMS team works as an integral part of the police SWAT team to provide medical backup for hostage situations or barricaded gunman. The HAZMAT team responds to any event that creates a release of a potential hazardous material

The Westland Fire Department in an effort for each citizen to have critical information available during a medical emergency has created this free reproducible form for the citizens we serve. Our paramedics will be looking for this form on your refrigerator under Mayor Wild’s V.I.R. magnet when responding to your home for a medical emergency.

Please take a moment to DOWNLOAD and fill out this document. You can also save this form to make it easier to update as necessary. The Fire Department recommends that you review this information every 6 months for accuracy, because the more accurate the information the faster we can serve you!
