Westland youth ages 9 through 16 are referred to Youth Assistance by the Police, Courts, Schools, Parents, and other Agencies. Once referred, an intake appointment is scheduled to explain the program's services to the youth and parents/guardians, and to offer them the opportunity to discuss their concerns and to ask questions. All information discussed is CONFIDENTIAL. ALL SERVICES ARE FREE TO WESTLAND RESIDENTS.
If the assessment determines that a youth is appropriate for Youth Assistance, the following services may be required for the youth:
- Assessment Meeting
- Life Choices Classes
- Drug Screens
- Community Service
- Mentoring
- Guest Speaker Presentation
- Recreational Activities
- Free Tutoring
- Karate
- Zumba Fitness (girls only)
- Case Management
- Referral Services
Parents are required to participate in a Parenting Skills and Support Group.
The Westland Youth Assistance Program is funded by the City of Westland with additional funds from Wayne County, SEMCA (Southeast Michigan Community Alliance), North Brothers Ford, the State of Michigan and the Westland Rotary Club
