Upon arrival of all parade participants, there will be a brief (approximately 40 minute) ceremony in honor of our fallen men and women who have given the greatest sacrifice for our nation by the ceremonial team from VFW Post 9885 “BOVA”.

As a show of respect for the fallen, The Westland Veterans Council insists on the following:

  • ELECTED OFFICIALS and CANDIDATES FOR ELECTED OFFICE are limited to walking or riding in the parade. NO POLITICAL FLYERS or LITERATURE can be distributed, NO CANDIDATE BANNERS, NO VOTE FOR SIGNS, NO CANDIDATE RELATED CLOTHING, or VEHICLE SIGNS of any kind will be permitted under any circumstances. Elected Officials will be permitted to wear casual shirts that reflect their elect office and position (i.e. Polo shirts with logos). Remember that you are here to honor our veterans and their families.
  • Absolutely NO POLITICAL CAMPAIGNING will be tolerated during this somber occasion.
  •  The passing out of candy to the children will be permitted. However, participants must keep their position in the parade at all times. DO NOT advance past the group in front of you and it must be done in a way that DOES NOT draw the children into the parade route for safety reasons.
