The City Clerk is an elected position. The city clerk's department is responsible for providing various services. Citizens can obtain information and receive assistance for:

• Animal and bike licenses
• Licensing for mechanical amusement equipment, billiard rooms, street vendors, solicitors, collision and bump shops, used car dealers, junk yards, pet stores, carnivals and festivals
• Birth and death certificates filed in the City of Westland only
• Processing of applications for passports (please see below)
• City charter, code and zoning board of appeals issues (city charters, building code manuals, city precinct/zoning maps can be purchased and the Westland City Charter* can be found online. • Issues bicycle licenses
• Processing of applications for persons appearing before the zoning board of appeals
• Issues relating to city council and contact with its members
• Permanent records, documents and ordinances of the city, please note that the Municipal Code of Ordinances* can be found online
• Voter registration and federal, state and local elections
• Issues relating to the fire and police civil service commission
• Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests

Passports

The City Clerk’s Office is an official passport processing facility. To receive a passport visit the City Clerk’s Office Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fees are as follows:

Basic fees must be paid by check or money order to U.S. Department of State. Processing fees must be paid by cash or money order made out to City of Westland. An expedited fee is an additional $60.00 for each applicant plus postage. Applications may be picked up from the Clerk's Office.
