City of Westland City Hall Park Public Information Meeting
Wednesday, December 14, 2022
Westland's Economic Development Team will host a design charrette on Wednesday, December 14 at 5:30 p.m at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd. The event, which is open to the public, will include a presentation of the proposed park plan and its components and will provide residents and stakeholders the opportunity to provide feedback and suggestions for project elements as well as future programming.
The Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA) has been working on the plan to revitalize the vacant property (formerly the Service Merchandise Building) adjacent to Westland City Hall into a programmable community gathering space. The goal is to anchor Westland's Shop and Dine District and increase the demand for future commercial and residential development within the district.
On Monday, December 5, the Westland City Council allocated $4 million of Westland's ARPA funds towards the $12 million project, adding to the $4 million previously allocated by the TIFA. The City has asked Wayne County to allocate the remaining $4 million from the County's ARPA funding.
"We view this project as the next phase of the creation of a City Centre for Westland, building on the success of the City Hall relocation" commented Economic Development Director, Aubrey Berman. "It has the opportunity to be truly transformational and we are excited to share our plans with the public and get their feedback."
