    Are you interested in giving back to the community and helping protect our community’s children?   The Westland Police Department is looking for candidates to serve as a crossing guard.  Crossing guards will receive training in topics such as stranger danger, CPR/First Aid, missing persons, and more.  Crossing guards will work at a variety of posts in school parking lots and at intersections throughout the city.  

  4. Location:

    Crossing Guards will be assigned posts at Schools within the City of Westland geographical border. 

  5. Minimum Qualifications:
    • Good moral character as determined by a criminal history check.
    • Responsibility over the safety of children
    • Dependable, to include excellent attendance record
    • Available to work during the hours of 7:00am to 9:30am and/or 2:30pm to 4:15pm or earlier (half days, etc.)
  6. Rate of Pay:

    $15.00 per hour paid bi-weekly

  7. Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Provide safe crossing for school children and pedestrians during drop-off and dismissal
    • Observe and stop vehicular traffic
    • Display and use safety equipment, such as handheld “STOP” signs and safety vest to be visible to motorists
    • Assist lost, injured students, who may otherwise need assistance.
    • Represents a positive image of the Police Department and School
    • Become CPR & First Aid Certified (training provided)
    • Crossing Guards will work under the training and supervision of the Westland Police Department Traffic Bureau
