Westland Rock and Roll Public Meeting

Tuesday, May 11, 2021

Virtual Westland Rock and Roll Public Meeting

The City of Westland is working to develop a Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Plan. The plan, titled, Walk and Roll Westland, will identify how to better connect residents with areas of high demand, including areas of commercial activity and the City's recreational amenities.  The City will host a public meeting to share information about the plan as well as to gather feedback from the public with regards to the future or walking and biking within the community.

During the meeting, the City will also present information on the Wildwood Road Bikeway Plan, which includes the creation of bicycle lanes on 3.5 miles of Wildwood Road running north-south from Warren Road to Glenwood Road contained entirely within the City of Westland. The lanes would connect northern and southern residential areas with main arteries of commercial business, areas of concentrated employment, and recreation and entertainment facilities. Westland has identified this corridor as an ideal location to build awareness and capacity of bicycle friendly avenues with an emphasis on safety mitigation and minimal interruption to current traffic patterns.

Over the past few years, the City of Westland has started to build awareness around bicycling and pedestrian safety and has start implementing more bicycling facilities. However, a more defined framework plan is needed to guide Westland in project implementation. Safe, comfortable, and convenient non-motorized facilities will help connect residents to schools, parks, jobs, recreation opportunities, and other amenities in Westland.

The Walk and Roll Westland Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Plan is intended to identify and prioritize potential future non-motorized infrastructure projects for the City of Westland. The Action Plan will, through technical analysis and public input, present a feasible set of projects aimed at improving bicycle and non -motorized connectivity, safety, and comfort for Westland residents.

“This plan will represent the most detailed non-motorized planning efforts yet by the City," commented Mayor William R. Wild. "We need as much public engagement and feedback as possible to ensure the plan provides a comprehensive outline of Westland's biking and walking priorities.“
