Redevelopment Ready Communities

Redevelopment Ready CommunitiesThe City of Westland is currently seeking to obtain certification through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's (MEDC) Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC) program.

Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC) Program

The RRC program is a voluntary, no-cost certification program designed to promote effective redevelopment strategies through a set of best practices. The program measures and then certifies communities that integrate transparency, predictability and efficiency into their daily development practices. The RRC certification is a formal recognition that a community has a vision for the future and the fundamental practices in place to get there.

The RRC Program allows communities to streamline internal processes and certification opens the door for a stronger working relationship with the State of Michigan with increased access to funding and collaborative opportunities to market Westland's exciting redevelopment opportunities.

RRC Program in Westland

Westland became formally engaged in the program on May 6, 2019, and has been working towards alignment with the RRC's best practices while awaiting its evaluation from the MEDC. Westland received its baseline report on April 21, 2020.

With this Baseline Report in hand, the City has now moved into the third and final phase of the RRC process. During this phase the City will work to address each of the best practice criteria identified by the MEDC.
