About

The Department of Innovation and Technology works everyday to improve the services provided to the residents and businesses of Westland.  This includes looking for better, smarter, more cost effective ways of providing services.  Technology is always evolving so the needs of our residents and businesses are evolving also.  Over the years, the Department of Innovation and Technology have received awards from various organizations in recognition of the exemplary work they and our vendor partners do to fulfill their mission for the City.  Here are some of the Awards the department has won: 

2018

  • Cityworks Exemplary User Award - Excellence in Online Practice
    • For work developing an online hydrant inspection process using Cityworks.
    • Vendor Partner:  Ritter GIS

2023

  • MI-GMIS (Michigan Government Management Information Sciences) Organization Impact Project of the Year
    • For work integrating multiple applications to provide better real time workflow processes between two City departments and reporting.
    • Vendor Partner:  Ritter GIS
  • MI-GMIS (Michigan Government Management Information Sciences) Citizen Impact Project of the Year
    • For work developing and running the City of Westland E-Recycling events that resulted in over 33,000 pounds of e-waste from being put into landfills in the first year of the program. 
    • Vendor Partner:  DRC Recycling
