Opening a Business

Opening a Business

The City of Westland requires new businesses to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy prior to opening to the public. This will assure that the business is in compliance with local zoning ordinances and Michigan Uniform Building Codes. An Application for a Re-Occupancy Permit (PDF) and a $193 processing fee must be submitted to the Building Department prior to inspections.

The property will be inspected by a Fire Department Inspector as well as a certified Building Inspector. The Building Inspector will determine what, if any, permits will be needed based on required safety updates and/or proposed renovations. Upon completion of all inspections, a Certificate of Occupancy will be issued to the new business.
